Vietnam War Art Analysis
My art piece expresses both perspectives of the Vietnamese war, and I did my art piece as two poems. My first poem is from the perspective of an American bomber and my second poem is from the perspective of a Vietnamese soldier. Both of my poems include grief and mourning for the mistake of the Vietnam war. With these poems I made it my goal to communicate destruction and sadness. To better understand poetry I looked at rhyme schemes and famous works of poetry.
To refine my art piece I started with a simple poem and elaborated on this. I did this by refining my individual lines which required me to use a rhyme scheme. This rhyme scheme organized my poem. After this I created another poem from the perspective of a Vietnamese civilian with the same rhyme scheme. Finally, I went through my poems and changed them so that emotion and the truth of war was communicated.
The inspiration for my project was a mix of the book which we read was called The Things We Carried and pictures from the Vietnam war. I started my art piece with a drawing, but as I dove deeper into the Vietnam culture I realized a poem would better represent my view on the war. After finishing my first poem I realized that it would be much better if I was able to communicate both perspectives of the war.
Perspective Statement: Even though the people and soldiers of the Vietnam War stood tall and strong, the constant bombing and vibrations of war rattled even the strongest warriors.
